Croatia

Split Region

The Split region is the centre of Croatian chartering. Bases in Split, Trogir, Kaštela and the town of Marina sit minutes from Split airport, and from any of them the classic central Dalmatian islands are a short sail away: Šolta and Brač across the channel, Hvar and the Pakleni islands to the south, and Vis and Korčula for a longer passage.

The fleet here is broad. Sailing yachts are the majority, but the region also has one of the largest catamaran fleets in the country and a good choice of gulets and motor yachts for skippered weeks. That makes it a good fit for groups mixing experienced sailors and first-timers.

Turkey

Göcek

Göcek sits at the head of the Fethiye Gulf, a short drive from Dalaman airport, and is one of the most sheltered charter bases in the Mediterranean. A cluster of islands and deep, pine-fringed bays — the area known as the Twelve Islands — lies within a couple of hours of the marinas, so a week here is more about choosing a cove than covering distance.

The fleet reflects that. Sailing yachts, motor yachts and gulets are almost evenly represented, which makes Göcek a natural place for a crewed blue cruise as well as a relaxed bareboat week. Charter boats are based in Göcek Muçev Marina, D-Marin Göcek and Marinturk Göcek Village Port, with the town quay close by.

Caribbean

British Virgin Islands

The British Virgin Islands are one of the easiest places in the world to start bareboat chartering. Some fifty islands and cays sit around the Sir Francis Drake Channel, which is sheltered from the Atlantic swell, and most hops between anchorages are only a few miles. Navigation is largely line-of-sight and mooring buoys are laid in many of the popular bays.

Almost every charter starts on Tortola: Road Town, including Wickhams Cay and Fort Burt, Nanny Cay, Soper's Hole on the west end and Hodge's Creek near Parham Town. The fleet is mostly catamarans, with a smaller choice of monohulls and power catamarans, and most boats are recent builds.
