Fleet snapshot of September 28, 2026. Prices and availability change daily — the live list below is current.
Greece offers more variety than any other Mediterranean charter country: two seas, thousands of islands and cruising grounds that range from gentle and sheltered to open and windy. The fleet is large — around 3,700 boats — and led by sailing yachts, with catamarans a strong second and a big motorboat fleet for day trips.
The main bases fall into two groups. On the Aegean side, the Athens marinas and Lavrion in Attica serve the Saronic Gulf and the Cyclades, with further fleets in Volos for the Sporades, in Kos and Rhodes for the Dodecanese, and on Paros, Mykonos, Crete and in Halkidiki. On the Ionian side, Lefkada, Preveza and Corfu are the hubs for the islands of the west coast.
The two seas sail very differently. In the Aegean the meltemi, a strong northerly, blows through July and August and can keep boats in harbour for a day or two, especially in the Cyclades. The Ionian and the Saronic Gulf are gentler, with a steady afternoon north-westerly and short distances between islands. The season runs from April or May to October, and mooring is often stern-to on a town quay with your own anchor.

Questions about chartering here
Which part of Greece is best for a first charter?
The Ionian around Lefkada and the Saronic Gulf from Athens are the gentlest, with short legs and moderate winds. The Cyclades are better saved for a crew with some experience, particularly in July and August.
Do I need a licence to charter a yacht in Greece?
For a bareboat charter the skipper needs a recognised sailing licence, and usually a second crew member with sailing experience. Skippered and crewed charters need no licence.
When is the meltemi strongest?
Usually from mid-July to late August, when it can blow hard for several days in the Aegean. June and September are good months for the Cyclades; the Ionian is little affected.
How many charter boats are available in Greece?
3,682 boats are based in Greece in our latest fleet snapshot, from operators including AF Yachting, MarGeo Yachts, Vernicos Yachts | Bareboat Charters.
How much does a yacht charter in Greece cost?
Nightly prices start at €142 for a boat with cabins; a typical boat here costs about €404 a night, roughly €2,828 for a Saturday-to-Saturday week. July and August cost more, and skipper, fuel and extras are usually on top.
Which boat types can I charter in Greece?
The fleet here includes: Sailing yacht (1691), Catamaran (974), Motorboat (675), Motor yacht (277), Gulet (33), Power catamaran (32).
