The Seychelles are a catamaran destination: granite islands, white-sand beaches and clear water in the western Indian Ocean, with the inner islands close enough together for easy day hops. Almost the whole sailing fleet is catamarans, most of them recent, which suits the shallow anchorages off the beaches.
Charters start from Eden Island Marina on Mahé, a short drive from the international airport, or from Praslin Marina at Baie Ste Anne. A typical week crosses from Mahé to Praslin, then visits La Digue, Curieuse and the smaller islands around them — Cousin, Félicité, the Sisters and Cocos — before returning. Several anchorages lie inside marine parks, where mooring buoys and park rules apply.
Sailing follows the two monsoons. From about May to October the south-east trades blow steadily and at times fresh, making the Mahé–Praslin crossing lively; from about December to March the north-west monsoon brings lighter, warmer and more humid weather. April and October–November are the calm transition months, often the most pleasant for cruising.
