Fleet snapshot of September 28, 2026. Prices and availability change daily — the live list below is current.
Brittany is Atlantic sailing: tides, currents, granite islands and a cooler summer than the Mediterranean. The largest base is Port du Crouesty at Arzon, at the mouth of the Gulf of Morbihan, with La Trinité-sur-Mer and Port Haliguen at Quiberon on the same stretch of coast. Larmor-Plage near Lorient, Brest, Saint-Quay-Portrieux and Saint-Malo cover the rest of the peninsula.
The fleet is mostly sailing yachts, generally smaller boats with two or three cabins, which suit short hops between harbours and islands. A handful of catamarans and motorboats complete the sea fleet, and there is also an inland houseboat fleet at Messac and Redon on the Vilaine and the Nantes–Brest canal.
From Crouesty or La Trinité, a typical week crosses Quiberon Bay to Houat and Hoëdic, spends a night or two on Belle-Île and may continue to Groix, returning through the islands of the Gulf of Morbihan on a favourable tide. Every passage here is planned around tidal streams, which run strongly in the gulf entrance and around the headlands. The best season is June to September, with westerly winds prevailing.

Is Brittany suitable for a first charter?
Brittany rewards some experience: tidal streams, a large tidal range and rocky coasts require careful passage planning. Quiberon Bay is a relatively forgiving area to start in, and a skippered week is a good way to learn tidal sailing.
What is special about sailing the Gulf of Morbihan?
The gulf is an inland sea dotted with dozens of islands, entered through a narrow mouth next to Port du Crouesty. The current in the entrance is strong, so boats time their passage with the tide and then explore the sheltered waters inside.
Can I rent a houseboat in Brittany?
Yes. Messac and Redon are bases for cruising the Vilaine river and the Nantes–Brest canal, a quiet inland alternative to the coast that needs no sailing experience.
How many charter boats are available in Brittany?
376 boats are based in Brittany in our latest fleet snapshot, from operators including Iloria Bretagne, Loc Voile Armor, Atlantique Location.
How much does a yacht charter in Brittany cost?
Nightly prices start at €177 for a boat with cabins; a typical boat here costs about €253 a night, roughly €1,771 for a Saturday-to-Saturday week. July and August cost more, and skipper, fuel and extras are usually on top.
Which boat types can I charter in Brittany?
The fleet here includes: Sailing yacht (275), Houseboat (43), Motorboat (41), Catamaran (12).
