Fleet snapshot of September 28, 2026. Prices and availability change daily — the live list below is current.
France offers two very different kinds of charter. On the coast, the Côte d'Azur, Corsica and Brittany are the main sailing grounds, with further bases at La Rochelle and along the Languedoc coast. Inland, France has one of Europe's largest canal and river networks, and houseboats are actually the largest single group in the fleet, based in Burgundy, on the Canal du Midi around Castelnaudary, Homps and Portiragnes, in Alsace and Lorraine, and in the Camargue.
At sea, the fleet is a mix of motorboats, sailing yachts, catamarans and motor yachts. The Côte d'Azur, from Marseille and Toulon to Hyères, Saint-Tropez, Cannes and Antibes, is the busiest area; Ajaccio is the main base for Corsica; and Brittany's Atlantic coast around the Gulf of Morbihan and Quiberon Bay brings tides, currents and a different kind of sailing.
The Mediterranean season runs from May to October, when the mistral is the wind to plan around in Provence and western Corsica. Brittany is best from June to September. Canal cruising runs from spring to autumn at a walking pace, through locks and villages, with no sailing experience needed.

Questions about chartering here
Do I need a licence to rent a houseboat in France?
Canal boats in France are normally rented without a boating licence: the base gives a handover briefing on handling the boat and working the locks before departure. A sea charter is different — bareboat yachts require a recognised sailing licence, or you can take a skipper.
Where should I start a sailing charter in France?
The Côte d'Azur has the largest coastal fleet and easy access to the Hyères islands and the Riviera. Corsica, from Ajaccio, suits crews looking for wilder coves; Brittany suits sailors who want tidal waters and a cooler summer.
When is the best time to charter in France?
June and September are the most pleasant months on the Mediterranean, with fewer boats than in July and August. In Brittany, June to September gives the most settled weather. Canal holidays are popular from April to October.
How many charter boats are available in France?
2,354 boats are based in France in our latest fleet snapshot, from operators including Philisa Apaca, Corsica Multicoques, Seaways Yachting.
How much does a yacht charter in France cost?
Nightly prices start at €177 for a boat with cabins; a typical boat here costs about €342 a night, roughly €2,394 for a Saturday-to-Saturday week. July and August cost more, and skipper, fuel and extras are usually on top.
Which boat types can I charter in France?
The fleet here includes: Houseboat (816), Motorboat (594), Sailing yacht (486), Catamaran (220), Motor yacht (219), Power catamaran (16).
