Mexico offers two very different charter coasts. On the Pacific side, La Paz in Baja California Sur opens onto the Sea of Cortez, with the desert islands of Espíritu Santo and Isla Partida a short sail away — red cliffs, turquoise coves and some of the best wildlife watching of any charter area. Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo sit at the tip of the peninsula, and Puerto Vallarta on Banderas Bay further south.
On the Caribbean side, the fleet is based around Cancún and Puerto Aventuras on the Yucatán coast, facing Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. Here most charters are day trips and short crewed cruises rather than week-long bareboat passages.
The fleet reflects that split: motor yachts make up the largest share, mostly chartered with crew, while catamarans are the main option for multi-day sailing, especially out of La Paz. In the Sea of Cortez the best months are roughly autumn to spring; summer is very hot, and both coasts have a hurricane season from about June to November.

Questions about chartering here
Where should I start a sailing charter in Mexico?
For a week of sailing and anchoring, La Paz is the natural base, with Espíritu Santo and Isla Partida close by. Cancún, Puerto Aventuras, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta are better suited to day trips and crewed motor-yacht charters.
When is the best time to charter in Mexico?
Late autumn to spring is the most comfortable season on both coasts. Summer is hot and humid, and the hurricane season runs from about June to November.
Do I need a licence to charter a boat in Mexico?
A bareboat charter needs a recognised sailing licence for the skipper, and a radio certificate on board is usually expected. If nobody in the crew holds them, choose a skippered or fully crewed boat, which needs no licence.
How many charter boats are available in Mexico?
302 boats are based in Mexico in our latest fleet snapshot, from operators including Dream Yacht Charter, The Moorings, Yate Co..
How much does a yacht charter in Mexico cost?
