Its long, open water and wooded hills make it a popular summer spot for day sailing and short trips. The Vltava river region is the base for houseboats, cruising a navigable river with locks, historic towns and a slow, relaxed pace.
The season runs from about May to September. Winds on the reservoir are usually light to moderate, with occasional summer storms, so keep an eye on the sky. On the river, locks set the rhythm of the day. Many of the boats are small and simple, which makes them good for families and first-timers.
