Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a chain of small islands stretching south from the volcanic peaks of St Vincent towards Grenada, and it is among the most rewarding sailing grounds in the Caribbean. Distances between islands are short, the trade winds blow across the chain, so most passages are on a reach, and the anchorages range from lively harbours to empty reef-protected lagoons.
The fleet is all catamarans, based at Blue Lagoon Marina on the south coast of St Vincent and at Bequia, in Port Elizabeth on Admiralty Bay. A typical week runs south through Bequia, Mustique and Canouan to the Tobago Cays marine park, with its turtles and reef-sheltered anchorage behind Horseshoe Reef, then on to Mayreau and Union Island before turning back north.
The season runs from about December to May, with steady easterly trade winds that can be fresh in the channels between the larger islands. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November. Reef entrances, especially in the Tobago Cays, need good light and a careful look at the chart.

Questions about chartering here
What is a typical one-week route in the Grenadines?
From St Vincent or Bequia: Mustique, Canouan, the Tobago Cays, Mayreau and Union Island, then back north. The open channel between St Vincent and Bequia can be rough, so time it for the calmer part of the day.
When is the best time to sail the Grenadines?
December to May, with steady trade winds and dry weather. June to November is the hurricane season.
Do I need a licence to charter in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines?
A bareboat charter needs a recognised sailing licence for the skipper, and a radio certificate on board is usually expected. If nobody in the crew holds them, choose a skippered or fully crewed boat, which needs no licence.
How many charter boats are available in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines?
34 boats are based in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in our latest fleet snapshot, from operators including Caraibes Catamarans, Seasalt Sailing LLC, World Sailing.
