India's charter fleet is small and local, split between Goa and Mumbai, and it is used mostly for day trips and sunset cruises with a crew rather than multi-day sailing. Prices reflect that, with the least expensive boats starting at about €48 a night.

In Goa, boats leave from Panaji on the Mandovi river and cruise down the river mouth and along the coast past the beaches and old forts, with dolphin-watching trips a local favourite. In Mumbai they are based around the harbour near the Gateway of India, for cruises across the bay and along the city waterfront. Motor yachts are the largest group, with a few sailing yachts and small motor boats.

The season is dictated by the south-west monsoon, which brings heavy rain and rough seas from about June to September, when most coastal boating stops. The best months are roughly October to May, with the cooler, drier weeks from November to February the most comfortable.
