Pula is the main charter base in Istria, a working port town at the southern end of the peninsula best known for its Roman amphitheatre. The fleet is split between several marinas: Marina Veruda and Marina Polesana in the Veruda inlet south of the centre, ACI Marina Pula on the city waterfront and ACI Marina Pomer in the Medulin bay.
Sailing yachts dominate, with catamarans and motor yachts making up the rest. Pula's value as a base comes from its position: south of the city, Cape Kamenjak marks the tip of Istria, and beyond it lies the open water of the Kvarner. Crossing it brings you to Unije, Susak, Lošinj and Cres — the islands that most Pula charters are built around.
A typical week crosses to Mali Lošinj or Ilovik on the first settled day, explores the channels between Lošinj and Cres, and returns via Unije or back along the Istrian coast with a stop at the Brijuni islands off Fažana. The Kvarner crossing is exposed, and the bura can build quickly, so choose the day with the forecast rather than the itinerary.
