Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and the most complete sailing ground in Spain. The Bay of Palma holds the biggest concentration of charter boats, spread across Club de Mar, the Real Club Náutico, Marina Port de Mallorca, Puerto Portals, Port Adriano and Can Pastilla, with Port d'Andratx in the south-west. Alcúdia and Port de Pollença cover the north, Cala d'Or and Portocolom the east coast, and Port de Sóller sits under the mountains of the west.
The fleet is broad: motorboats for day trips across the bay, sailing yachts as the backbone of week-long charters, and a good choice of motor yachts and catamarans. The east and south-east coasts are the classic cruising ground, a chain of narrow calas with turquoise water; the north-west, below the Serra de Tramuntana, is more dramatic and more exposed.
A typical week from Palma heads south-east to the Cabrera archipelago — a national park where mooring buoys must be booked in advance — then along the calas of the east coast to Cala d'Or and Portocolom before returning. From Alcúdia, Menorca is a day's sail away. Summer brings a reliable afternoon sea breeze in the Bay of Palma; the tramontana is the wind to watch on the north coast. The season runs from May to October.

Which Mallorca base should I choose?
Palma has the largest fleet and is close to the airport, which makes it the easiest start. Port d'Andratx suits the west coast and Dragonera; Cala d'Or and Portocolom are already on the eastern calas, and Alcúdia or Port de Pollença are the bases for crossing to Menorca.
Can I visit Cabrera on a charter from Mallorca?
Yes, it is a popular stop south of Palma. Cabrera is a national park: anchoring is not allowed and the mooring buoys must be booked in advance with the park authority, so reserve before your charter starts.
Is Mallorca good for a first bareboat charter?
Yes. The south and east coasts offer short hops, plenty of harbours and reliable summer breezes. Avoid planning around the north-west coast in unsettled weather, where the tramontana leaves few places to shelter.
How many charter boats are available in Mallorca?
629 boats are based in Mallorca in our latest fleet snapshot, from operators including Steffen, Cruesa Mallorca Yacht Charter, First Class Sailing Spain.
