Campania is Italy's most famous stretch of coast by boat: the Bay of Naples, the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida, the Sorrento peninsula and the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast. Distances are short and the scenery changes every few miles, so a charter here is as much about the towns ashore as the sailing itself.

The fleet reflects that. Motor yachts are the largest group, used for day trips and short crewed charters along the Amalfi Coast and out to Capri, with motorboats, sailing yachts and catamarans making up the rest. The main bases are Salerno, Sorrento, Castellammare di Stabia and Procida, with boats also collecting guests at Positano and Amalfi and in Naples and Pozzuoli.

A sailing week often starts in Procida or the Naples area, visits Ischia and Capri, runs along the Amalfi Coast towards Positano and Amalfi, and returns via the Sorrento peninsula; with more time, the Pontine islands of Ponza and Ventotene lie further north-west. Summer winds are usually moderate afternoon sea breezes, but harbours on Capri and the Amalfi Coast are small and busy, so expect to anchor or book ahead. The season runs from May to October.

Questions about chartering here

Is Campania better for a day trip or a week-long charter?

Both work. Most of the local fleet is motor yachts and motorboats used for day trips to Capri and along the Amalfi Coast, while sailing yachts and catamarans from Procida, Salerno or Castellammare di Stabia suit a week around the islands.

How do I get to a Campania charter base?

Naples airport is the natural gateway: Naples, Pozzuoli and the ferry to Procida are close by, and Sorrento, Castellammare di Stabia and Salerno are reached along the coast by road or rail.

What are the highlights of sailing the Bay of Naples?

Capri's grottoes and Faraglioni rocks, the colourful harbour of Procida, the thermal springs of Ischia and the cliff villages of Positano and Amalfi. Vesuvius is visible from almost every anchorage in the bay.

How many charter boats are available in Campania?

579 boats are based in Campania in our latest fleet snapshot, from operators including Starsail Charter Italy, Marina Yacht Charter, Sail and Experience.

How much does a yacht charter in Campania cost?

Nightly prices start at €164 for a boat with cabins; a typical boat here costs about €351 a night, roughly €2,457 for a Saturday-to-Saturday week. July and August cost more, and skipper, fuel and extras are usually on top.

Which boat types can I charter in Campania?

The fleet here includes: Motor yacht (206), Motorboat (145), Sailing yacht (120), Catamaran (98).
