Fleet snapshot of September 28, 2026. Prices and availability change daily — the live list below is current.
Sardinia's charter fleet is concentrated in the north-east, and for good reason. From the marinas around Olbia and Portisco, Cannigione on the Arzachena gulf, Porto Rotondo and Golfo Aranci, the Costa Smeralda and the La Maddalena archipelago are only a few hours' sail away. The water is famously clear, the granite islands are full of small anchorages, and Corsica lies just across the Strait of Bonifacio.
Sailing yachts and catamarans make up most of the fleet, a sign that this is primarily a sailing ground for week-long island hopping; motorboats serve day trips along the Costa Smeralda. Further south, Cagliari and Carloforte give access to the quieter south and south-west coasts, and Cala Gonone and Arbatax on the east coast sit below the cliffs of the Gulf of Orosei.
A typical week from the north-east runs through the Maddalena islands — Spargi, Budelli, Caprera — and, weather permitting, crosses to Bonifacio or the Lavezzi islands before returning along the Costa Smeralda. The maestrale is the key factor: it can funnel strongly through the strait for several days, so plan the crossing on a settled day. The season runs from May to October.

Which Sardinian base is best for the La Maddalena archipelago?
Cannigione and the marinas around Olbia and Portisco are closest; from Cannigione the first Maddalena anchorages are within a short sail. The archipelago is a national park with its own rules on access and anchoring, so check them before you go.
How strong is the mistral in Sardinia?
The maestrale (mistral) is the defining wind of northern Sardinia. It usually builds from the north-west and can blow strongly for a few days, accelerating through the Strait of Bonifacio. Sheltered anchorages exist on the lee side of most islands, but crossings to Corsica should wait for a lull.
Is Sardinia suitable for a first charter?
The north-east is compact and full of shelter, which suits newcomers in settled weather. Because the mistral can arrive quickly and blow for days, a skippered or flotilla week is a sensible first step if the crew has little experience.
