Colombia's charter fleet sits on its Caribbean coast and is built mostly around motor boats and motor yachts chartered for the day. Cartagena de Indias is the main base, with boats at the Cartagena Nautical Club, Porto Cartagena, Bocagrande and several town piers; from there the usual trip is out to the Rosario Islands and the beaches of Barú, a short run south-west of the city.

Santa Marta, further east, gives access to the coast around Tayrona National Park, where forested hills drop straight into small bays. A small fleet operates from San Andrés, far offshore in the western Caribbean, known for its reefs and very clear water.

Because the fleet is mainly crewed day boats, a Colombian charter is usually planned as a series of outings from one base rather than a point-to-point passage; a handful of catamarans are available for longer trips. The drier months run from about December to April, when the trade winds also blow harder along this coast; the rest of the year is wetter, with afternoon showers.
