Saint Barthélemy — St Barths — is a small, hilly French island in the northern Leeward Islands, known for its harbour town of Gustavia, its beaches and its upmarket feel. The charter fleet here reflects that: a small group of boats based at Gustavia Marina, mostly motor yachts and motor boats chartered with a crew, with a few catamarans and a sailing yacht.
Most charters are day trips around the island: to the sheltered anchorage of Anse de Colombier on the north-west coast, reachable only by sea or on foot, to the beaches of Saint-Jean and Gouverneur, and to the small islets offshore. For longer trips, Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten lie a few hours to the north-west, and Anguilla beyond.
The season runs from about December to May, when the trade winds blow steadily from the east and the weather is dry. Parts of the coast lie within a marine reserve, where anchoring is restricted and moorings are used. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November.
