Montenegro's charter coast is short but unusually dramatic. Most of it is the Bay of Kotor, a deep, winding inlet ringed by steep mountains, with the old walled town of Kotor at its innermost point and the island churches off Perast in the middle. Outside the bay, the open Adriatic coast runs south past Budva towards the Albanian border.
The fleet is small — around 140 boats — and evenly spread across sailing yachts, catamarans, motor yachts and motorboats. Tivat is the main base, at Porto Montenegro and Marina Solila, with further fleets in Kotor and at Herceg Novi near the mouth of the bay. Tivat airport is a short drive from the marinas.
A week here often combines the bay with the coast: a first night inside the Boka, a visit to Perast and Kotor, then out past the mouth to Budva and the anchorages along the Budva Riviera. Many crews extend north into Croatia to Cavtat and Dubrovnik, which requires border formalities on both sides. Winds inside the bay are usually light, while the open coast gets the afternoon sea breeze and occasional bura.

Questions about chartering here
Where do Montenegro charters start?
Most start in Tivat, at Porto Montenegro or Marina Solila. Smaller fleets are based in Kotor and at Herceg Novi.
Can I sail from Montenegro to Croatia?
Yes, Dubrovnik is within reach, but you must clear out of Montenegro and into Croatia at an official port of entry. Check with the operator that the boat's paperwork allows it.
Is the Bay of Kotor suitable for beginners?
Yes. The bay is sheltered and winds inside are usually light. The open coast outside is more exposed, so a skipper for the first days is a sensible option for new crews.
How many charter boats are available in Montenegro?
142 boats are based in Montenegro in our latest fleet snapshot, from operators including Dream Yacht Charter, Ancyra Sailing Montenegro, Y Knot Kiriacoulis Yachting.
How much does a yacht charter in Montenegro cost?
Nightly prices start at €171 for a boat with cabins; a typical boat here costs about €267 a night, roughly €1,869 for a Saturday-to-Saturday week. July and August cost more, and skipper, fuel and extras are usually on top.
Which boat types can I charter in Montenegro?
The fleet here includes: Sailing yacht (42), Motorboat (36), Motor yacht (32), Catamaran (30).
