Ibiza Town is where most of the island's charter fleet is based, and the harbour itself is part of the appeal. Boats lie in Marina Botafoch and Marina Ibiza across the water from the walled old town of Dalt Vila, and in the marinas of the port itself; the airport is a short drive away, so crews can be aboard within an hour of landing.
The fleet here is dominated by motor yachts and motorboats, many of them chartered by the day or with a skipper, which makes Ibiza Town the island's centre for day trips rather than long bareboat passages. Catamarans and sailing yachts are available for crews who want to stay out for a week.
The defining trip from Ibiza Town is south to Formentera. The route crosses the shallow Es Freus channel, passes the salt flats and beaches of the Ses Salines natural park and reaches the long white sand of Illetes and the anchorages off Espalmador. Closer to home, Talamanca bay just north of the harbour is a sheltered first-night anchorage. In high summer the Formentera anchorages are busy by mid-morning, so an early start pays off. The season runs from May to October.
