The USA charter fleet is dominated by motor yachts, most of them in Miami and offered with a crew, usually for a day or a few hours rather than a week. Catamarans, sailing yachts, power catamarans and motorboats round out the fleet, and prices start from €660 per night, which reflects the larger, crewed boats.
Florida holds most of the fleet, and nearly all of it is in Miami, at Miami Beach Marina, Bayside Marina, Venetian Marina and on the Miami River. Biscayne Bay, the Miami skyline and the sandbars are the classic day trip, and the Bahamas lie about 50 NM across the Gulf Stream for longer crewed voyages. California has a fleet in Los Angeles, including Marina del Rey, and Newport Beach for coastal and harbour cruising, and on the east coast Annapolis on Chesapeake Bay and Washington, DC offer sailing and river cruising.
Florida can be sailed all year, with the calmest weather in the drier winter and spring months. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, so check forecasts closely then. In Southern California the weather is mild year-round, and on the Chesapeake the main season runs from spring to autumn.
