Chartering in the United Arab Emirates is almost entirely motor-yacht chartering with a crew. The fleet is concentrated in Dubai, in Dubai Marina and Dubai Marina Harbour, with a small number of boats in Abu Dhabi. Boats range from compact motor boats to large crewed yachts, and most are relatively recent builds.
Rather than week-long passages, charters here are usually booked by the hour or the day: a cruise along the Dubai Marina and Jumeirah waterfront, past the Palm Jumeirah and the city skyline, with time to anchor for a swim. Longer trips are arranged directly with the crew, who handle navigation and local port procedures.
The pleasant season runs from about October to April, when temperatures are comfortable and the sea is usually calm. Summer is extremely hot and humid, so trips shift to early morning or evening. The shamal, a north-westerly wind, can build a short, steep sea in the Gulf, which the crew will plan around.
