Sint Maarten, the Dutch side of the island shared with French Saint-Martin, is a hub of the north-eastern Caribbean, with a busy international airport and a large yachting community around Simpson Bay and its inland lagoon. The charter fleet listed here is small and mostly at the upper end: crewed catamarans and motor yachts for day trips and private cruises, with a few boats for longer charters.
Boats are based around Philipsburg and Simpson Bay, including the Simpson Bay Yacht Club. From here the classic outings are around the island's coves, north to Anguilla with its long white beaches, and south-east to St Barths, a few hours' sail away. Access to and from Simpson Bay Lagoon runs through an opening bridge on a fixed schedule, which the crew will plan around.
As elsewhere in the Leeward Islands, the main season runs from December to May, with steady easterly trade winds and dry weather. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, when boats may be moved or itineraries shortened at short notice.
