AnchorQueen · v2.4.6

What's new in AnchorQueen 2.4.6

This version is in development. Sections are added as features land.

At a glance

  • 3D views say when the map can't load. If the chart service refuses the map, Passage 3D and the reels now show a clear "Map could not load" message within seconds instead of an endless loading screen.
  • Your boat keeps its name on Remote after a connection drop. When the phone lost and regained its connection, other boats in your Remote channel could see your position without your boat's name. Your identity is now re-sent automatically on every reconnect.
  • A second charter partner: Click&Boat. Where Click&Boat leads (France, Monaco, Spain, Italy, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean) the charter section, the route planner's Rent chips and the chart now open Click&Boat; elsewhere it appears as an Also on Click&Boat link beside BOATAROUND, and a coral Click&Boat pontoon with up to twelve of its boats lies next to the BOATAROUND fleet on the chart. See Two charter partners.
  • Charter prices in Israeli shekels. The charter currency switcher now matches BOATAROUND's own list: the Israeli new shekel is new, and the Bulgarian lev is gone now that Bulgaria uses the euro. If you had picked the lev, prices return to your phone's own currency.
  • Lakes and rivers stay water with the free World Coastline map. With World Coastline installed, inland charts such as US North on the Great Lakes and US Inland Waterways could paint a whole lake or river as land, leaving only its shoreline. Their water, depth shading and channels now draw on top of the world map again.
  • Swiss Lakes now has depth on all twelve lakes. The Swiss Lakes & Alpine Waters chart used to show depth only on Lake Geneva, Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Biel and Lake Murten. It now also covers Lake Constance, Lake Zurich, Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug, Lake Thun, Lake Brienz, the Walensee and the Swiss part of Lago Maggiore, with depth shading, soundings and routing. If you already own the pack, update it from the Store. Lake Lugano is not part of the Swiss federal lake survey, so it shows harbours and navigation marks only. The chart also draws land again around every Swiss lake when you zoom in close — before, the shore went blank past a certain zoom unless the free World Coastline map was installed. Depth numbers are also spaced out now, so a shallow shore platform no longer turns into rows of identical soundings.
  • Passage 3D boats turn like real boats. In the 3D replay your boat now starts each turn before the waypoint, swings round smoothly and leans outward through the corner, instead of snapping its bow back and forth at every turn. Boats sharing the water with you turn smoothly through their own corners too.
  • Passage 3D runs cooler. The 3D replay now draws fewer frames, stops drawing entirely shortly after you pause it, and automatically switches to a lighter mode when your phone gets warm or Low Power Mode is on. See Passage 3D & sea simulation.
  • Your boat shows up in 3D on lakes. Replaying a passage on a lake above sea level — Lake Zurich, Lake Geneva, Lake Constance, the Great Lakes — could leave the 3D view without a boat: it was drawn at sea level, hundreds of metres below the water. The boat, the other boats and the 3D track now float on the lake itself.
  • Restricted zones, hazards and lights show as soon as the chart opens. Military practice areas, marine protected areas and other restricted zones from your installed charts, along with the charts' hazards and navigation lights, stayed hidden after launch or after switching between Day and Night charts until you moved the map. They now draw straight away.
  • Auto Route works on any saved route, wherever the chart is pointing. With several chart regions installed, opening a saved route right after launch could fail with "Both origin and destination are outside the covered sea area" — and show "– m" along its depth profile — until you nudged the map. Each leg is now planned on the chart region that covers it, loaded on demand, and the depth data loaded at launch is the region under your last map position rather than whichever region happened to be installed first. See Which chart region a route uses.
  • Updating a chart you're looking at no longer closes the app. Downloading an update for an installed chart — for example Aegean & East Mediterranean — while its map was on screen could close AnchorQueen the moment the update finished installing. Updates now install without interruption, and the new chart data draws straight away instead of after a restart. Deleting a chart you had been viewing and downloading it again in the same session is fixed too. See Updates.
  • Charts update themselves on Wi-Fi. Installed charts now download new data automatically — only on Wi-Fi, never over mobile data, a personal hotspot or a Low Data Mode network. Every update is verified before it replaces your chart, and it waits while your anchor watch or route guidance is active, so the chart never changes under you. Each chart's card shows the progress, and Settings → Chart updates turns it off. See Automatic updates on Wi-Fi.
  • Destination photos in the Charters desk. The Boats banner now shows a photo of the place you searched, the popular bases carry a photo of their destination, and a new Top sailing destinations strip — Croatia, Greece, Göcek, Sardinia, Mallorca and more, with boat counts and prices from — starts a search with one tap. Photos are kept on your phone for offline use; without them the desk looks as before. See The Charters desk.
  • Tapping a popular base searches it again. Choosing a marina or country from the popular bases on the Charters desk now puts its name in the search field and shows its boats — before, the desk kept searching where it was.
