Glossary

Marine and app terms used in this manual.

Active Vessel — the boat AnchorQueen is currently tracking as yours. Set

it by dragging a boat onto the active slot in

Captain → My Vessels; it survives relaunch.

AIS (Automatic Identification System) — live position broadcasts from

nearby vessels. Jules can list the closest traffic

on request.

Anchor watch — keeping check that an anchored boat is not dragging.

AnchorQueen automates this from the SafeAnchor tab.

Anchor watch in 3D — the armed anchorage shown over 3D terrain: rings on

the seabed, the swing so far, the live boat and the drift forecast, with the

marine weather on the page. Opened from the glowing 3D button on the

Anchor Watch chart.

Armed — the alarm state in which the anchor watch is actively

monitoring your position. The watch arms itself once the anchor commits —

there is no separate Arm button.

ATT (App Tracking Transparency) — Apple's first-run prompt asking

whether the app may track activity for ads. Declining does not limit any

AnchorQueen feature; a PRO subscription removes ads entirely.

Base map — the underlying chart style. Pick it in the chart's

Chart Layers → Maps panel, not in Settings.

Captain's Library — the unified manager for saved routes, waypoints,

captain's marks, and recorded passages. Opened from the side menu's

Capt's Routes entry — see [Chart → Captain's

Library](chart.html#captains-library).

Captain's mark — a position you saved on the chart. Marks appear in

the Capt's Notebook Pin Carousel and can carry

photos, voice memos, and a signature.

Chart region — a packaged offline map area you install from the

Store. The offline-first source of soundings and

vector charts.

Charter base — the marina a charter boat is let from and returned to.

It is the position shown for every boat in

Renting a boat here — a base, never a live

position, and never AIS traffic.

Comfort index / score — a sea-state rating (e.g. Moderate Sea State)

shown in Meteo → Events. Tap it for the comfort

history and forecast.

Command Palette — the dual-mode search overlay opened from the search

icon: a Map Search tab (places, harbours, seamarks, saved waypoints,

with recent history) and a Features tab. See

Course Predictor — the dashed line drawn ahead of your boat showing

where you will be six minutes from now. A toggle in the chart's

Chart Layers → Navigation tab (on by default).

Crosshair / reticule — the on-screen target marker that reports depth

at the chart center; toggle in Discover.

Datum (tidal) — the reference level tide heights are measured from

(e.g. MLLW, Mean Lower Low Water). Shown as a badge on the

Meteo station card; subtract it to estimate

real clearance.

Depth-aware route — a route that is planned to keep you in safe water

for your boat. Jules plans these on request.

Direct It — nudging the set anchor a chosen distance ahead of the

boat along your live heading, using a slider — see

SafeAnchor. No bearing is typed.

Dock to Dock — the guided A→B route-build mode (departure and

destination slots) as opposed to free-form drawing. See

Chart → Route.

Document Vault — a private 50 MB store on the

Captain tab for certificates, insurance,

and ship's papers (PDF / JPEG / PNG).

DOP (dilution of precision) — a GPS fix quality number. Lower is

better.

Drifting — the alarm state when your boat has crossed the alarm

radius. The radar flashes and the alarm sounds.

EEZ / maritime zone — a sea-area jurisdiction (territorial sea,

Exclusive Economic Zone) belonging to a sovereign state.

Jules can tell you which one you are in.

Favourite ❤️ — a seamark, route, passage, Captain's Mark or past anchorage

you have hearted. It carries a ❤️ badge on the chart at every zoom, is listed

first in Search, and syncs with your account. See

Favourites.

Fishing effort — vessel-hours of active fishing, the metric behind the

Merconi fishing heatmap. Sourced from GFW.

Flotilla — multi-vessel remote anchor-watch, a MAX-tier feature that

lets you monitor several boats at once. See Store.

GFW (Global Fishing Watch) — the open source behind the

Merconi fishing-effort heatmap. The layer needs a

configured GFW token.

Ghost Fleet — the live positions of other AnchorQueen captains shown

on the chart (distinct from the Voyage Ghost vessel below). A layer in

the Region Button Bar.

Ghost vessel — the semi-transparent vessel marker that plays back the

route during Voyage.

Grace period — the window (up to 90 days) after a chart-region

subscription lapses: the region stays viewable but automated routing and

updates pause. See Store.

Grounding alarm — a warning that the water under your keel has dropped

below your safety margin. Shows a red chart banner with Silence /

Dismiss. Unlike the drag and man-overboard alarms it is visual only —

it plays no sound; see SafeAnchor.

Heading — the compass direction your bow points, in degrees (0–360).

Holding score — a rating of how well an anchor will grip the seabed

at a spot, based on the seabed type. Ask Jules.

Jules Needs / Jules token — your daily AI allowance for

Jules. Buy bonus token packs (Deckhand / Navigator /

Admiral) in Store → Jules Needs.

Legend panel — a collapsible side panel that holds layer toggles on

the chart; minimize it to the Region Button Bar.

Live Discover — the sidebar tally of nautical objects (lights, buoys,

harbours, anchorages, wrecks…) AnchorQueen collects as you pan the chart.

Meteogram — a multi-day graphical forecast; the third sub-tab of

Meteo. Its 3-day and 7-day ranges are a PRO

feature.

MOB — Man Overboard. The button on every map tab that drops an

emergency marker, starts return guidance, and records a recovery track.

SafeAnchor → MOB.

NMEA — the standard sentence format marine instruments use to share

data. Connect a Wi-Fi gateway or Bluetooth pod in

Settings → NMEA; model-specific instructions are

in Connect boat instruments.

OBIS — the live Ocean Biodiversity Information System database behind

Merconi marine-life pins. Networked, with the last

viewed area cached.

Officer — one of Jules's expert personas (e.g.

meteorologist, navigator). Selected from the pill row at the top of the

chat.

Pin Carousel — the row of floating captain's-mark chips at the top of

the Capt's Notebook chart, sorted nearest-first

to the chart center. Its leading count badge opens the Pin Manager.

Pin Manager — the sheet opened from the Pin Carousel count badge to

list, fly to, and delete saved marks (including bulk delete). See

Capt's Notebook.

Port of entry — a harbour with customs and immigration offices where

you can clear in to a country. Jules can find the

nearest ones.

Pre-arm ("Locking GPS…") — the brief step after you tap Drop

Anchor while the watch averages accurate fixes before committing the

anchor position. See SafeAnchor.

Public Beacons — the opt-in live positions of other AnchorQueen

captains, shown on the chart with an amber ring (your own flotilla shows

teal; raw AIS has no ring).

Region Button Bar — the bottom-left vertical capsule of minimized

legend-panel buttons. Zero-count categories auto-hide; the bar collapses

to a chevron.

Rode — the chain or rope connecting your boat to its anchor.

Safety Profile — optional SOLAS SAR / ISAF details (blood type,

emergency contact) on the Captain tab,

used when you raise a distress alert. Its SAR Ready badge lights when

the three critical fields are set.

Scope — the ratio of deployed rode length to water depth. More scope

holds better but lets the boat swing in a wider circle.

Seamark — a charted navigation aid such as a buoy, beacon, or

lighthouse. Jules can list those near you.

Server / Client — the two roles in

Remote monitoring. The server stays aboard; the

client goes ashore.

Speed over ground (SOG) — your speed across the seabed, from GPS.

On the chart HUD the SOG readout colour-shifts as an early drag cue.

Sub-mode — a switch inside a tab, shown as a frosted pill bar at the

bottom. SeaTracker has Route / Discover / Voyage; Merconi has Diving /

Discover / Fishing; SafeAnchor has Anchor Watch / Radar / Remote.

Swing radius — the distance a boat moves around its anchor as wind

and tide change.

Tile Engine — the Settings → Chart

option that chooses how map tiles are fetched: a three-tier offline cache

or direct streaming.

Tile pack — a downloaded bundle of chart tiles for offline use,

either cached on demand from the Chart tab or as

part of an installed region.

Track Style — the Settings → Chart

controls for how recorded tracks are drawn (solid or speed-gradient

colour, line width, opacity, fade).

TSS (Traffic Separation Scheme) — IMO-designated one-way shipping lanes

divided by a no-go separation zone. COLREGS Rule 10 requires crossing

near a right angle and forbids anchoring in the zone (Rule 10(g)). AnchorQueen

draws schemes offline and alarms on violations — see

Chart → TSS.

Turn card — the heading and distance instruction shown above the

ghost vessel during Voyage.

Under-keel clearance — estimated metres of water beneath the keel

(negative means aground). Drives the

grounding alarm.

Vessel Command Cluster — the fan-out floating button on

Voyage with My Vessel / Ghost / Go / Anchor / Depart.

Voice memo — a spoken note (up to 45 seconds) attached to a captain's

mark; plays back even with the silent switch on. See

WoRMS — the World Register of Marine Species, the taxonomy source that

enriches Merconi species pins with common names and

reference links.
