Darwin
The Top End's capital — lock-in marinas behind big tides and the base for Timor Sea passages.

Cruising Australia North
The Top End is frontier cruising: Darwin's tides run several metres, Arnhem Land's coast is remote Aboriginal country with few services, the Gulf of Carpentaria is shallow and hot, and saltwater crocodiles rule the shore. The dry-season trade winds make the passage, and cyclones close it in summer. This region is built on Geoscience Australia's AusBathyTopo 250 m grid with a finer 30 m grid for Torres Strait, plus lights and reef and rock features from the Marine Park Authority. It covers Darwin, Arnhem Land, the Gulf of Carpentaria, the Arafura and Timor Seas and Torres Strait.

Questions
How tricky is Torres Strait?
It is shallow, reef-strewn and tide-swept, with strong currents and shipping funnelled through narrow channels such as the Prince of Wales Channel. This region carries a 30 m bathymetry grid for the strait, far finer than the 250 m data elsewhere.
Does it cover the Gulf of Carpentaria?
Yes — Weipa, Karumba, Groote Eylandt and the Arnhem Land coast, plus the Arafura and Timor Seas west to Darwin.
Will it work with no signal across the Top End?
Yes — fully offline once downloaded, which is the only option along almost all of this coast.
