Where this region's sailors actually drop anchor.

Isla Mujeres & Cancún
The favourite first landfall in Mexico — a sheltered lagoon anchorage and easy provisioning.

Cozumel
A reef-fringed island in the strongest of the current — world-class diving, limited shelter.

Puerto Morelos & the Riviera Maya
A reef-protected coast of small harbours and marinas, entered through narrow reef passes.

Banco Chinchorro
A remote coral atoll and wreck graveyard offshore — eyeball pilotage and settled weather only.

Cruising Mexican Caribbean
The Mexican Caribbean pairs turquoise water with real pilotage: the Mesoamerican Reef runs just off the Quintana Roo coast, reef passes are narrow, and the Yucatán Current sets hard to the north. Beyond it lie the shallow Campeche Bank, the winter nortes that sweep the Gulf, and a hurricane season that shapes every plan. Depth comes from GMRT bathymetry, with community-mapped navaids, hazards and marinas, offline for the long empty stretches. This region covers the Gulf of Mexico coast, the Yucatán, Cozumel and the Mexican Caribbean down to Banco Chinchorro.

Questions
How strong is the current along the Yucatán coast?
The Yucatán Current sets north along the Quintana Roo coast, often at two to three knots and more between Cozumel and the mainland. Southbound boats often work close inshore to ease the set — exactly where accurate reef edges and depth-aware routing matter.
Does it cover Banco Chinchorro?
Yes — Chinchorro, the reef-lined Costa Maya, and the Gulf coast from the Yucatán to Veracruz and Tampico. Coral atolls change, so treat the final approach as eyeball navigation in good light.
Will it work without cell signal offshore?
Yes — fully offline once downloaded, which is what you need off the Costa Maya and across the Campeche Bank.
